About Civically Engaged

Civically Engaged is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering justice-involved youth and young adults—particularly those formerly incarcerated—through comprehensive civic education, leadership development, workforce training, and mentorship. We believe that investing in young people impacted by the juvenile justice system strengthens our democracy and transforms communities from within.

Our approach provides a clear pathway for young people to reenter society as informed, empowered, and civically engaged leaders.

Our mission is to equip formerly incarcerated youth with political literacy, leadership skills, and workforce readiness to build careers in politics, public service, and advocacy. We teach young people how to think critically about politics—not what to think—preparing them to lead civic initiatives, register voters, and build collective power in their communities.

We envision a future where young people affected by incarceration lead movements, shape policies, and create opportunities not just for themselves but for generations to come. At Civically Engaged, we believe democracy thrives when it is inclusive, transformative, and powered by those historically excluded.
